Today is National Child Care Provider Day. Intentionally celebrated on the Friday before Mother’s Day, it is a time to show gratitude for those who take care of children.
Child care providers are educators, nurturers, and small business owners. In homes and centers they guide children and teach them many skills they will use in life.

Kelly Monson, Minnesota’s Children’s Cabinet Program Manager, talked about Help Me Grow at May’s policy hour.
The purpose of Help Me Grow is to promote healthy development in children prenatal to age eight. The program seeks to support both children and families. It is a cross-agency effort that includes the Minnesota Departments of Health, Education, and Human Services. Currently Help Me Grow provides information on developmental milestones of young children and refers concerned parents and caregivers to local early childhood special education (ECSE) services.

Fifteen years ago, families in White Earth, Minnesota didn’t have access to early learning programs. Families were lucky to get a spot in a Head Start program, one of the only options in the community.
Now, thanks to years of hard work and dedicated funding, children and families not only have access to high-quality early care and education programs, they can afford them as well.
